Indiana Practices Still Have Time to Follow the ‘MUvers’

John Labban, M.D., has a very busy solo ob/gyn practice in Bloomington that ran out of space for paper charts. In May, he learned about web-based clinical messaging through HealthLINC and told his staff, “Let’s go for it.” They are still discovering the pros and cons of technology; however, Dr. Labban says the good things are he can work from anywhere and access patient information online any time of day. He greatly appreciates the speed of e-prescribing and definitely does not miss the pile of charts on his desk! more

New funds support rural hospitals’ switch to electronic health records

HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius today announced nearly $20 million in new technical support assistance to help critical access and rural hospital facilities convert from paper-based medical records to certified electronic health record (EHR) technology. Some 1,655 critical access and rural hospitals in 41 states and the nationwide Indian Country, headquartered in the District of Columbia, stand to benefit from this assistance, which can help each of them qualify for substantial EHR incentive payments from Medicare and Medicaid. more
