The development of a robust health information infrastructure continues to be key to improving the quality and cost of healthcare. Federal mandates will soon accelerate the process for health information exchange to improve efficiency and reduce health care costs nationwide. Any strides that are made in solving the complex issues of health IT will surely benefit all government agencies in solving their own challenges, especially with regard to privacy and security. This session discusses current developments and the changes that lie ahead including the HITECH Act which seeks to streamline healthcare and reduce costs through the use of health information technology.
